Syracuse, N.Y. – Colgate University registered a 4-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team at Drumlins Country Club on Friday evening.
Colgate won two of the three matches in the doubles competition to claim the point. Sasha Herman and Carina Cristobal won at the second spot over seniors
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset), 6-3. Rebecca Hess and Avery Isaac clinched the point with a 6-3 win over senior
Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior
Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) at the third position. Junior
Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) registered a 6-4 win at the top spot over Amelia Galin and Sophia Montero.
The Dolphins won the first match to finish in the singles competition to even the match, but Colgate followed with the next three victories. Sanchez Jimenez tied the match at one point apiece with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the top spot over Galin. Herman gave the lead back to the Raiders by knocking off Alvarez at the fifth position, 6-1, 6-4. Hess pushed the lead to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the third spot over Simeonova. Caroline Brown clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Raiss at the sixth position.
Montero had a 7-5, 5-3 lead at the second spot over Fernando, while Anya Kunar and Casares were tied at one set apiece, 0-6, 6-4, 1-3, at the fourth position.
Le Moyne (0-8) returns to NEC competition on Sunday at Binghamton University at 4:00 p.m.
