West Haven, Conn. — The Le Moyne College baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series with New Haven on Friday afternoon at Frank Vieira Field, 13-6.
Seven different players drove in runs for New Haven, led by left fielder Jaylin Manson and second baseman Michael Christian, who each recorded three hits, drove in two runs and walked once. Center fielder Nick Ungania also drove in two runs, walked twice and stole one base.
Senior right-hander Myles McDermott earned the victory for New Haven after registering three strikeouts and allowing three runs in 5.0 innings of work.

Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) drove in a run on two hits and was hit by two pitches. Sophomore first baseman
Robert Wegrzyn (
North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) also recorded two hits and drove in two runs. Senior shortstop/first baseman
Adam Sullivan (
Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) and senior center fielder
Paulie Goodness (
Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon Finger Lakes Community College) each recorded an RBI single and walked once, and junior catcher
Cooper Romich (
North Chili, N.Y.Churchville-Chili) drove in a run and walked once.
Redshirt freshman right-hander
Mitchell Earle (
Cortland, N.Y. Homer) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 2.1 innings of work and recording the loss.
Cannon was hit by a pitch with two outs in the top of the first inning and he stole second base to get into scoring position. Sullivan then hit a single to right field to score Cannon and give the Dolphins an early 1-0 lead.
Ungania walked to lead off the bottom of the first and Manson was hit by a pitch to give the Chargers runners on first and second with no outs. Ungania advanced to third base on a fly out and a sacrifice fly by catcher Casey Cerruto scored Ungania to tie the game at 1-1.
Third baseman Joseph Frazzetta reached second base on a throwing error in the infield with two outs in the bottom of the second inning and Christian followed with an RBI double to right field to make it 2-1.
Ungania and Manson worked back-to-back walks to lead off the bottom of the third and each moved up one base on a passed ball. Right fielder Shaun Callahan followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 3-1. Manson then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. The next batter was retired, but two two-out walks around an error on the third baseman loaded the bases for the Chargers and then a fielding error on a ground ball hit by Christian allowed a run to score to make it 5-1. Shortstop Aedan Forde then walked to force in another run to give New Haven a 6-1 lead.
Romich was hit by a pitch and Wegrzyn singled to give the Dolphins runners on first and second with no outs in the top of the fourth inning. The next two batters were retired, but a walk to junior second baseman/shortstop
Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) was followed by an RBI bunt single by Goodness that scored Romich and made it a 6-2 game.
Manson singled and Callahan walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth and each runner advanced a base on a passed ball. Cerruto followed with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Manson and made it 7-2. The next batter was retired before designated hitter Matthew McIntire hit a single to left field to score Callahan and make it 8-2.
Cannon was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the fifth inning and advanced to third base following a stolen base and a balk. Romich hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Cannon, making it 8-3.
Christian led off the bottom of the fifth with a single. He reached second on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Ungania to make it 9-3. Manson followed with a triple to left field and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-3.
The Dolphins had runners on second and third base with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, and Wegrzyn hit a single to right center to score two runs and make it 10-5.
The Chargers loaded the bases to begin the bottom of the seventh, and Manson hit a single to center field that scored two runs and gave New Haven a 12-5 advantage.
Whelehan and Goodness walked to lead off the top of the eighth inning. The next batter was retired before Cannon followed with an RBI single to right field to make it 12-6.
The Chargers had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and Ungania singled to center field to score a run and make it 13-6.
Right-hander Carson Morgan came in to pitch the top of the ninth for the Chargers. He worked around a walk and a single to complete a scoreless final frame, securing the 13-6 victory for New Haven.
Le Moyne and New Haven will continue the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
