BASEBALL CLAIMS SECOND STRAIGHT SERIES WITH 6-5 WIN OVER NEW HAVEN

West Haven, Conn. —  The Le Moyne College baseball team earned the win and a series victory in the final game of a three-game set with New Haven on Sunday afternoon at Frank Vieira Field, 6-5.

Junior right fielder Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the Dolphins with a pair of runs batted in and freshman left fielder Isaac Brozon (Aurora, N.Y. Southern Cayuga) recorded one RBI on one hit, one walk and two stolen bases. Senior center fielder Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon Finger Lakes Community College) also recorded one hit and two stolen bases while adding three walks. Junior second baseman Mike Whelehan (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) walked twice and scored twice, including the eventual game-winning run.

Freshman right-hander Luke VanMarter (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 4.0 innings of work, striking out four batters and allowing three runs. Redshirt sophomore left-hander Max Danaher (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was the first of three relief pitchers to take the mound for the Dolphins, striking out two batters and allowing one run in 3.0 innings of work to record the win. Redshirt sophomore Eric Swiencicki (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) completed the final 1.2 innings on the mound, striking out two batters, allowing zero earned runs and earning the save.

Shortstop Aedan Forde and center fielder Nick Ungania singled and left fielder Jaylin Manson walked to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third inning for the Chargers. A sacrifice fly by right fielder Shaun Callahan allowed Forde to score and make it 1-0. The next batter flew out which allowed Ungania to advance to third and he then scored on an executed double steal with Manson to make it 2-0.

Second baseman Michael Christian scored from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead.

Whelehan and Goodness worked two-out walks in the top of the fifth inning and Brozon singled to right field to bring Whelehan home and make it 3-1. Cannon followed with an RBI single to right center that scored Goodness to make it 3-2. Senior shortstop Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) walked to load the bases for the Dolphins and junior first baseman Cooper Romich (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) followed with an RBI walk to tie the game at 3-3. Sophomore catcher Robert Wegrzyn (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) then walked to force in a run and give the Dolphins the lead and a wild pitch brought Sullivan home to make it 5-3.

Whelehan and Goodness walked to begin the top of the sixth inning. An executed double steal put the runners on second and third base and a sacrifice fly by Cannon allowed Whelehan to score to put the Dolphins ahead 6-3.

The Chargers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Danaher got Manson to ground out to first base to end a scoreless frame.

Callahan singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and designated hitter Jake Russo hit an RBI double off of the left field wall to make it 6-4.
