BASEBALL FALLS TO WAGNER, 6-0, IN SERIES OPENER

Augusta, N.J. —  The Le Moyne College baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series with Wagner on Friday afternoon at Skylands Stadium, 6-0.

Four different players drove in runs for the Seahawks, led by left fielder Diego Tavarez, who had two hits and drove in three runs. First baseman Joseph Mennella added a solo homer for his fifth home run of the season. Catcher Brendan McLoughlin drove in one run on two hits, and center fielder Lukas Torres recorded an RBI double, walked once and stole one base.

Right-handed starting pitcher Colin Trizuto earned the victory for Wagner after registering seven strikeouts and allowing zero runs in 8.0 innings of work on the mound. Right-hander Braden Lowe struck out three batters in a scoreless final inning.

For Le Moyne, seven different players recorded at least one hit, but none were able to bring a run across. Freshman second baseman Isaac Brozon (Aurora, N.Y./Southern Cayuga) had two hits, including a double, and senior designated hitter Adam Sullivan (Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) and senior center fielder Paulie Goodness (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Finger Lakes Community College) each added two singles.

Redshirt junior right-handed pitcher AJ Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 7.0 innings of work, striking out one batter, allowing six runs and recording the loss. Freshman left-handed pitcher Connor Usowski (Auburn, N.Y./Port Byron) struck out one batter in a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning.

Sullivan and junior first baseman Cooper Romich (North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) each singled to put runners on first and second with one out in the top of the fourth inning, but the Dolphins were unable to drive them in.
Mennella hit a solo shot to left center in the bottom of the fourth to put Wagner ahead 1-0.

Third baseman Omar Carreras led off the bottom of the fifth with a double. The next batter was retired before McLoughlin singled to left center to bring Carreras and make it 2-0. McLoughlin advanced to second base on a ground out, and Torres followed with an RBI double down the right field line to make it 3-0. Designated hitter Matt Sutera then singled before Tavarez hit a single to left center that brought both runners across and gave the Seahawks a 5-0 lead.

Brozon led off the top of the sixth inning with a double but did not come around to score.

Torres worked a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh. He stole second base later in the inning before Tavarez drove him in on a single through the left side to make it 6-0.

Lowe came in to pitch the top of the ninth for Wagner. Romich led off the inning and reached base on a hit-by-pitch. The next two batters struck out before junior left fielder Chaz Anthony (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) singled to right center to give the Dolphins runners on first and second with two outs. Lowe got the last batter of the game to strike out to secure the 6-0 victory for Wagner.

Le Moyne and Wagner will continue the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
