WAGNER TAKES BOTH LEGS OF SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST SOFTBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team hosted Wagner in a home NEC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks earned the win in both games, taking down the Dolphins, 4-1, in the opener before coming out on top, 11-2, in five innings in game two.

Game 1:
Wagner opened the day by pushing a run across in the top of the first inning off Le Moyne's freshman starter Tatum Nessman (Calgary, Alberta / National Sport School) as a bases-loaded single to left field off the bat of third baseman Sydnie Trujillo scored right fielder Lea Rachal from third.

After four scoreless innings, the Seahawks added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth as Trujillo singled to left field before being driven in on a two-run homer to right center by shortstop Payton Janicki.

The visitors added their final run of the day and took a 4-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning as singles from second baseman Leilani Gonzales and Rachal brought up Trujillo who singled up the middle to bring the lead runner home.

Down to their final opportunity at the plate, the Dolphins picked up a run in the bottom of the frame as junior DP Arianna Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) singled up the middle before her pinch runner, junior Gabriella Zarcone (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East), stole second and came around to score on a two-out pinch-hit double to left-center from Elizabeth Gleghorn (West Henrietta, N.Y. / Rush-Henrietta)

The Dolphins were unable to continue the scoring and fell, 4-1, in the series opener.

Exarchakis, Gleghorn, left fielder Kayla Dunkerley (Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley), and sophomore center fielder Maddie Martin (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) recorded the team's four hits in the loss.

Nessman allowed one run on two hits and four walks through 1.1 innings in the start while sophomore Isabella Kwashek (West Deptford, N.J. / West Deptford) allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one batter through 5.0 innings in relief.

Sophomore Danni Simpson (Marietta, Ga. / Sprayberry) finished out the game allowing zero runs on no hits or walks in the final 0.2 innings of play.

Game 2:
Le Moyne got on the board first in game two as sophomore third baseman Cianna Benamati (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) walked to reach base early in the second inning before moving to second base on a sac bunt by freshman catcher Camryn Shenk (Rome, N.Y. / Camden)

Junior Avery Linn (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) then singled to the pitcher to put runners on the corners before freshman shortstop Coral Enscoe (Webster, N.Y. / Bishop Kearney) doubled to left center to plate both runners and put the Dolphins ahead, 2-0.

The Seahawks took the lead in the top half of the third inning as Janicki singled up the middle to score a pair before Alayna Giampolo reached first on a throwing error, allowing two more runners to cross the plate on the play.

Wagner scored the final seven runs of the game in the top of the next inning as the team recorded six hits and were aided by a pair of errors in the frame. Gonzales, Janicki, right fielder Taylor Reynolds, and catcher Anna Burke each recorded an RBI in the inning for the visiting squad.

The Dolphins were unable to mount a comeback, going down 1-2-3 in the final two innings as Wagner took the five-inning game two, 11-2.

Enscoe, Linn, and Exarchakis tallied the 'Phins' three hits in the game with Enscoe's second-inning double marking the team's two RBI.

Freshman starter Adrianna Laraway (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) allowed eleven runs (one earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings in the start.

Simpson appeared in relief again in game two, allowing no runs on three hits and zero walks while striking out one in the final 1.1 inning in the circle.
