WOMEN’S TENNIS RALLIES FOR 4-3 VICTORY OVER LIU IN NEC QUARTERFINALS

West Windsor, N.J. – The sixth-seeded Le Moyne College women's tennis team earned its first NEC Championship victory with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over third-seeded LIU in the quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

The Dolphins (4-11), who fell to the Sharks, 4-2, in last year's quarterfinals, but defeated LIU in the regular season 13 days ago, 4-3, advance to the semifinals for the first time, where they will take on second-seeded Saint Francis University on Friday at 9:00 a.m.

LIU (4-12) took a 1-0 lead in the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. Mia Tsoukalas and Paula Guillen recorded a 6-1 win at the top spot over junior Ella Fernando (Manchester, England/Stonyhurst College) and senior Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey). Ksenia Reznitskaya and Leena Kuittinen also posted a 6-1 win over seniors Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) at the second position. Senior Emma Sanchez Jimenez (Marbella, Spain/Victoria Kent Marbella/Eastern Florida State College/Carson-Newman) and junior Lilia Raiss (Temara, Morocco/Descartes) won for the Dolphins at the third spot, 6-2, over Mori Grylak and Emma Barclay.

The Dolphins captured the match by winning four of the six positions in the singles competition. Tsoukalas put LIU up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the second position over Simeonova. Sanchez Jimenez got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Reznitskaya at the top spot.
