Syracuse, N.Y. — The Le Moyne baseball team dropped game two of a three-game series with Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field, 12-2.
Seven different players drove in runs for the Skyhawks, led by third baseman Michael Rickert, who drove in two runs on two hits, including a home run, walked twice and stole one base. First baseman Nathan Kearney recorded a game-high three RBIs on two hits and left fielder Jamison Howland drove in one run on three hits, including a double. Designated hitter John Bureau drove in two runs on two hits, including a double, and walked once and shortstop Ryan LeClair added an RBI single and walked once. Second baseman Armanis Romero drove in one run, walked once and stole one base and right fielder Will Newton added an RBI single, two walks and two stolen bases.
Right-handed starting pitcher Ryan Douglas earned the win for Stonehill, allowing two runs and striking out five batters in 7.0 innings of work. Left-hander Jake Lanzer finished the final 2.0 innings on the mound, allowing zero runs and striking out one batter.
Junior first baseman
Cooper Romich (
North Chili, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) had the only RBI for the Dolphins on a sacrifice fly and added a single. Senior shortstop
Adam Sullivan (
Syracuse, N.Y./Marcellus) recorded two hits and a walk and junior right fielder
Jack Cannon (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) added a single and stole one base to get within one of Kyle Brown '04's single-season program record of 42.
Freshman right-hander
Luke VanMarter (
Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) made the start for Le Moyne, pitching 3.2 innings of work, allowing five runs, striking out three batters and recording the loss.
Center fielder Sam Parks led off the game with a single and Rickert lifted a two-run shot to right field to give the Skyhawks an early 2-0 lead.
Sullivan and Romich each singled to begin the bottom of the second inning. Sullivan advanced to third base on a flyout before a wild pitch allowed him to score to make it a 2-1 game.
Parks singled and Rickert doubled to put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the third. Kearney then lined a two-run single into left field to give Stonehill a 4-1 lead.
Romero and Parks walked to put runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the fourth and an RBI single to left field by LeClair made it a 5-1 game.
Back-to-back doubles by Howland and Bureau made it 6-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Romero followed with an RBI single to left field to make it 7-1.
Rickert worked a one-out walk in the top of the sixth and stole second before Kearney singled up the middle to make it 8-1. A single by Howland and a walk by Bureau loaded the bases and a wild pitch allowed Kearney to score, making it 9-1. Newton followed with an RBI single to right field to make it a 10-1 game.
Cannon led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, stole second and advanced to third base on a groundout. Romich then lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 10-2.
Back-to-back RBI singles by Howland and Bureau put the Skyhawks ahead 12-2 in the top of the ninth.
Lanzer tossed a 1-2-3 scoreless bottom of the ninth inning to secure the 12-2 victory for Stonehill.
Le Moyne and Stonehill will finish the series on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
