Loudonville, N.Y. - Haley Crawford registered 13 kills to lead Delaware State to a 3-1 victory over the Le Moyne College volleyball team on the second day of the Siena Invitational on Saturday evening at the UHY Center.
After Delaware State took a 7-2 lead in the opening set, LeMoyne rallied back, bringing it within one of the Hornets. The team traded points for the remainder of the set, where Delaware State narrowly edged out the Dolphins for a 26-24 set win. The second set saw the two sides trade points for the first 16 points before the Hornets ran away with it, going on a five point run before taking the game, winning 25-15.
The third set was reminiscent of the first, seeing Delaware State go on a 7-3 run to start the set. The two sides traded points until the Dolphins pulled ahead, 25-22 winning their first set of the season. LeMoyne was unable to keep the momentum going into the fourth and final set, allowing the Hornets to dominate the first part of the set. LeMoyne was able to tie the set at 21-21, with the Dolphins leading 23-21 at one point in the set. However, the Hornets were able to pull out a win, closing the set with a score 30-28.
Freshman Katie Barbour (Durham, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) led both squads in assists with 38. For her efforts over the two days, Barbour was named to the All-Tournament Team. Junior duo
Payton Horan (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) and
Jazmin Rodriguez (Madera, Calif./Madera) led the Dolphins with nine and eight kills respectively. Junior outside hitter/DS
Piper Hooey (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) led the team in digs with 12.
Le Moyne is back in action at the WNY Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Dolphins open the event against Valparaiso University at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
