LE MOYNE DROPS BOTH MATCHES FRIDAY AT WNY INVITATIONAL

Buffalo, NY. - The Le Moyne volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set decisions to Valparaiso and Canisius on Friday afternoon at the WNY Invitational. The Beacons took the first match by set scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-13, while Canisius claimed the victory by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set saw Valparaiso take an early lead, going up 10-3. The Dolphins would go on a series of small runs, including a 5-0 run to close the gap to 13-11. The two squads would trade points until the end of the set, where the Beacons were able to pull off a win, 25-23.

Le Moyne and Valparaiso traded points to start the second set before the Beacons took control of the set, winning 25-16. The third set started much the same, with a competitive start before the game got away from the Dolphins. Valparaiso would win the final set 25-13, and win the match.

Senior Opposite/Outside Hitter Branwyn Lupton (Napanee, Ontario/ Napanee District Secondary School) led the team with six kills as freshman libero Aubrey Kimball (Greensboro, N.C./Cornerstone Charter Academy) anchored the defense with 14 digs.

The second match of the day saw Canisius take the first set in commanding fashion, going on a four point streak to close out the set, 25-18. The second set was closer, with Le Moyne going on a six point run midway to nearly take the lead. The Golden Griffins barely edged out the Dolphins to win the set, 25-23. The third, and final set was a similar story as the squads traded points until the end. Canisius narrowly beat out Le Moyne, 25-20 to win the set and the match.

Le Moyne is back in action at the WNY Invitational on Saturday. The Dolphins end the event against Niagara University at 2:00 p.m.
