Jamal Palmer

Jamal Palmer joined the Le Moyne College men’s basketball coaching staff prior to the 2013-14 season after spending four seasons as an assistant at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

In his first season at Pitt-Johnstown (UPJ) in 2009-10, he helped guide the Mountain Cats to a 17-12 finish and a 12-10 record in the WVIAC. UPJ improved to 18-10 overall the next year, including a mark of 14-8 in the WVIAC. The 2011-12 season saw the Mountain Cats go 15-14 (12-10 WVIAC) and earn their third straight berth into the WVIAC Championships quarterfinals. Last year, UPJ went 15-13 (10-12 WVIAC) and again advanced to the conference quarterfinals.

Prior to his time at UPJ, Palmer spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at NCAA Division III Saint Vincent College. Before moving to Saint Vincent, Palmer spent three years at Division II Slippery Rock University. He was an assistant coach during the 2005-06 season before serving as the interim head coach in 2006-07 and 2007-08.

Palmer, who will work with the post players, opened his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Shippensburg University in 2003-04 and 2004-05.

Palmer, who hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, played collegiately at Division II Millersville University. As a junior in 1997-98, he was named the 1998 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Player of the Year. A three-time All-PSAC First Team honoree, Palmer was an Honorable Mention All-America selection in both 1998 and 1999.

Upon graduating from Millersville in 1999 with a degree in Social Work, Palmer embarked on a four-year professional career in England, Luxembourg and Finland. Playing for the Worthing Thunder in England in 2000, Palmer garnered England Basketball League Most Valuable Player honors as a forward/center after averaging over 17 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks per game. He then earned Most Valuable Player and Co-Most Valuable Player honors in two seasons with T-71 Dudelange in the Luxembourg Professional League. In addition to playing for T-71, he served as an assistant coach with the junior team, which included a 16-0 season.
