MEN'S BASKETBALL: FRANKLIN PIERCE HOLDS OFF LE MOYNE 56-54 TO SNAP DOLPHINS STREAK AT TWO WINS

RINDGE, N.H. – Darryl Minnifield and Pierre Sully scored 11 points each as Franklin Pierce held off Le Moyne 56-54 in a Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball game at the FPC Fieldhouse. The Ravens (10-7, 7-5 Northeast-10) sweep the season home-and-home series with the Dolphins (7-11, 3-11 Northeast-10) and stopped Le Moyne's winning streak at two straight.

Le Moyne senior Corey Smith (Gouverneur, N.Y./Gouverneur) made a season-high five 3-pointers for a game-high 15 points. Junior forward Matt Cooper (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) added 13 points and sophomore guard Jason Holmes (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) tallied 11 points. Senior center Sid Pond (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked a career high five blocked shots.

After falling behind by six points with 25 seconds to play, Le Moyne had a chance to send the game into overtime. Sully seemed to ice the game as he converted two free throws with 25 seconds remaining to give the Ravens a 56-50 lead. Sid Pond (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) scored a tip-in with 16 seconds to play and after a failed front end of a one-and-one for Franklin Pierce, freshman Damani Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglass) knocked down a jumper with eight seconds left to cut it to 56-54. Sully misfired on the first shot of another one-and-one with six seconds to play to allow Le Moyne a chance to tie. Smith grabbed the defensive rebound on Sully's miss and fed Corbin whose end-to-end attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Le Moyne led by as many as seven in the opening half and held a 20-16 edge 5:14 before intermission. Franklin Pierce closed out the half with 11 unanswered points to take a 27-20 lead at the intermission. The Ravens opened up their biggest lead, a 10-point margin, 31-21 on a Sean Mayo layup with 18:21 remaining.

Franklin Pierce topped Le Moyne 58-49 on Jan. 5 in Syracuse. The Dolphins remain on the road for another Northeast-10 Conference game on Monday at Southern New Hampshire. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.
