SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore Brian Cost (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) had a hand in six goals as No. 1 Le Moyne captured its seventh consecutive Northeast-10 Conference men's lacrosse regular season championship with a 16-5 win over Merrimack. The Dolphins (13-0, 9-0 Northeast-10) run their league regular season winning streak to 69 consecutive games, while Merrimack (9-4, 8-1 Northeast-10) drops its first Northeast-10 game of the season.
Sophomore Mike McDonald (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) scored a game-high four goals and assisted on another score for Le Moyne. He netted his four goals in the middle two quarters, including a last-second score in the first half as the Dolphins built an 11-1 halftime edge.
Junior midfielder Matt Cassalia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) also scored three goals and set up two for the Dolphins. Senior Jason Longo (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) netted two goals and assisted on two. Senior Craig Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), Ryan Lewis (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), Nate Evans (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and Blake Gale (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) tallied one goal each.
Le Moyne scored the first four goals of the game, then followed NCAA Division II leading scorer Greg Ragowski's only goal with eight straight open up an 11-goal lead. The Dolphins took their biggest lead on a McDonald tally off a Cost assist that made it 14-2 with 4:07 remaining.
Chris Elia led Merrimack with two goals. Ragowski tallied one goal and assisted on another score. Eric Tompkins made 11 saves for Merrimack.
Le Moyne converted 3-of-8 extra-man opportunities, while the man-down unit held Merrimack without a goal in three chances. The Dolphins outshot their visitors 47-16, including a 34-7 edge in the opening half.
Senior goalkeeper Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) made six saves for his 41st career win. He is 41-1 with a 4.37 goals against average in three seasons.
Le Moyne hosts Southern New Hampshire in its regular season finale on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
