SYRACUSE, N.Y. - No. 3 Le Moyne defeated the Saint Michael's Purple Knights 15-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Niland Athletic Complex on the Le Moyne College campus. The victory improves the Dolphins' record to 8-2 on the season, 4-2 in the NE-10 Conference. The loss drops Saint Michael's to 6-5 on the year and 5-2 in conference.
Juniors Mike McDonald (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) and Brian Cost (Camillus, N.Y. /West Genesee) led the Dolphins in scoring with three goals and one assist each. Tim Spillett (Camillus, N.Y. /West Genessee) and Brian Griffin Camillus, N.Y. /West Genesee) tallied two apiece, while Tom Donahue Syracuse, N.Y. /West Genesee), Nick Gatto (Syracuse, N.Y. /Henninger), Matt Cassalia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee), Kevin Kohl (Liverpool, N.Y. /Liverpool) and Andrew Carducci Syracuse, N.Y. /Henniger) scored one goal to round out the Le Moyne attack.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 7-0 lead after a goal from Tim Spillett at the 3:29 mark in the second quarter. The Purple Knights broke through with a goal from Mike Bednarz and Le Moyne took an 8-1 advantage into halftime. Saint Michael's was first to score in the third period to pull within six. Le Moyne would go on a 7-1 run pull away from the Purple Knights and secure the victory.
Brian Griffin won 14 of 18 face-offs and the Dolphins held Saint Michael's to 19 shots for the game. Â Jared Corcoran (Concord, N.H./Concord) picked up his eighth victory of the season and his 56th of his career.
The Dolphins will next travel to Pace on Tuesday, April 17th at 4:00 pm.
