#1 LE MOYNE CRUISES TO 17-1 VICTORY OVER #6 MERCYHURST
IN HOME OPENER.
SYRACUSE, NY - The top ranked Le Moyne College men's
lacrosse team opened their home schedule in an impressive fashion
as the Dolphins defeated Mercyhurst 17-1 at the Carrier Dome. The
game was a rematch of the 2007 Division II National Championship
game where Le Moyne captured the program's third national title
with a 6-5 decision. The win improves the Dolphins' mark to
2-0 on the season. The Lakers drop their second consecutive game
and fall to 2-2 on the year.
Le Moyne came out strong in the opening period, scoring four
goals and holding the Lakers' scoreless on six attempts. Two first
half goals by sophomore Keith Vetter would propel the Dolphins to
an 8-0 halftime lead. Six other Dolphins would tally goals in the
opening 30 minutes.
Senior Brian Cost would score his second goal of the game to
start a 5-0 run for Le Moyne to open the second half. In total, the
Dolphins recorded the first 13 goals of the game before the Lakers
were able to get on the board with just over five minutes remaining
in the third period.
Le Moyne would score four more goals over the final 20 minutes
to cruise to the 17-1 victory. Cost led all scorers with four
points on two goals and two assists. Mike McDonald led the
Dolphins a game-high three goals. Nick Gatto, Keith Vetter
and Jack Venditti each scored two goals each. Eight other
Dolphins reached the scoring column on the day.
Doug McIver recorded five saves in goal to earn his second win
in as many games.
Le Moyne returns to action on Saturday, March 5th as
they travel to take on #4 C.W. Post at noon.
