BRIAN COST AND JACK VENDITTI LEAD LE MOYNE TO 9-5 VICTORY
OVER ST. ANSELM.
MANCHESTER, N.H. – The top-ranked Le Moyne College
men's lacrosse team improved to 7-0, 4-0 (NE-10) by dealing
St. Anselm a 9-5 defeat on Saturday. The Dolphins were led by
senior Brian Cost and Jack Venditti who combined for seven of the
nine Le Moyne goals. With the loss, St. Anselm falls to 5-4, 3-2
(NE-10).
St. Anselm would strike early taking a 1-0 lead with Steve
Trocki's 13th goal of the season. Le Moyne would even the
game at 1-1 on a man-up goal from Venditti with 9:25 in the first
quarter. Nick Gatto and Venditti each added goals to give the
Dolphins a 3-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes of play.
Le Moyne used strong defense, holding St. Anselm to four second
quarter shots, and goals from Cost (2) and Venditti to take a 7-1
lead into the intermission.
The Dolphins scored two more goals to open the third quarter to
round out a stretch that saw Le Moyne score eight unanswered goals
to take a 9-1 lead into the final minute of the third quarter.
St. Anselm tried to make things interesting with a goal by Mike
Humphreys late in the third period to pull within six goals at 8-2.
Cost added is fourth goal of the day with 13:32 remaining in the
fourth quarter to give the Dolphins a 9-2 advantage. St. Anselm
scored three goals late in regulation, but it wasn't enough
to hold off the Dolphins from securing their 18th consecutive
victory.
Venditti led all scorers with three goals and three assists on the
day. Cost added one assist along with his four goals. Nick Gatto
and Brian Griffin each scored one goal.
Griffin continued his dominating play at the face-off position as
he won 16 of 16 draws on the afternoon. Dating back three games,
Griffin has won 44 of his last 47 face-offs.
Doug McIver collected his seventh career victory in goal, making
seven saves against 21 shots.
Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday, April 6th as they travel to
take on AIC at noon.
