Worcester, Mass. - Junior Tirzah Walrath (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) picked up a straight-set win in singles action and teamed for a doubles victory to lead Le Moyne College to a 5-4 win over Assumption on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action.
Walrath registered her fifth consecutive win in singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Samantha Jean at first singles. She teamed with classmate Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) for an 8-2 win at first doubles over Marissa Charles and Jean.
The Dolphins also earned singles victories by freshmen Caroline Tisdell (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and Brittany Recchia (LaGrange, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes/Siena) and sophomore Molly Slifer (Henrietta, N.Y./Bishop Kearney). Tisdell defeated Grace Fox, 2-6, 6-3, 4-1, at third singles, Recchia posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Caitlin Harvey at fifth singles, while Slifer registered a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Grace O'Neil.
The Greyhounds earned wins at second singles by Melissa Ferry and at fourth singles by Charles. Ferry and Fox teamed for a win at second doubles, while Harvey and O'Neil picked up a victory at third doubles.
Le Moyne (6-8, NE-10 6-6), which closed out the regular season with wins in four of its last five matches, opens play in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference tournament on Tuesday. Tournament pairings will be announced following the completion of the regular season on Sunday.
