Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior Katie O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team to a sweep of Saint Rose and Assumption on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. The Dolphins topped the Golden Knights 129-108 and the Greyhounds 124-107. On the men's side, junior Drew Acquaviva (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) won an individual event and teamed on two relay wins, but the Dolphins fell to Saint Rose, 127-110.
O'Donnell recorded two individual wins for the third straight meet. She placed first in the 200-yard IM by just over half a second with a time of 2:12.04, her fastest time of the season in the event. She later touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best 59.37 seconds to win by over four seconds. In addition to her individual victories, O'Donnell teamed with sophomore Jacqueline Daly (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush), junior Mary Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and senior Sarah Salanger (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.90. Chidsey earned the win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.33, while Salanger topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:01.79. Junior Meghan Shea (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/U. of Bridgeport) won both 1-meter diving events, scoring 169.40 points in the first event and 232.85 points in the second event.
Acquaviva swam the opening leg as he teamed with junior Joe Taylor (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex), sophomore Tim Gallivan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and freshman Tyler Olson (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in 1:40.94. To close out the meet, Acquaviva teamed with sophomore Scott Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), junior Michael Ablan (Gouverneur, N.Y./Gouverneur) and senior Sean Hosford (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a season-best 1:29.59. Individually, Acquaviva placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 53.63 seconds. Olson registered Le Moyne's first individual win of the day in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 22.76, while Hosford later won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.48 seconds.
Le Moyne returns to action on Friday, December 3 at 6:00 p.m. for the first day of RIT's three-day Don Richards Invitational.
