Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior righty Jenna Vanacore (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) tossed a no-hitter in the opening game to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a split of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Adelphi on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins took the first game, 2-0, before falling in the nightcap 10-5.

Vanacore, who tossed a perfect game at Molloy as a freshman, struck out eight batters en route to holding the Panthers without a hit.

The Dolphins scored the only run they would need on two hits in the opening inning. Senior second baseman Kelly Schweikert (Rochester, N.Y./Spencerport) singled to third base with one out and moved to second as classmate Bailey Phillips (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Arcadia) was hit by a pitch. Sophomore catcher Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) then singled up the middle to drive in Schweikert.Le Moyne padded its lead with a run on three hits and an Adelphi error in the third frame. Sophomore third baseman Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to open the inning and proceeded to steal second base. Senior designated player Danielle VanGorder (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) followed by singling through the right side to knock in Cashel.

Leighann Bell suffered the loss for the Panthers after yielding just two runs (one earned) on seven hits in six innings, while striking out six batters.

In the nightcap, Deandra Leo got the Panthers on the scoreboard in the second inning with a one-out solo home run to left center.

Adelphi added six runs on five hits and one Le Moyne error in the third inning to blow the game open. Leo singled down the left field line with one out and the bases loaded to drive in the first two runs of the inning. Following the second Le Moyne pitching change of the inning and a throwing error by the pitcher to load the bases again, Heather Salerno was hit by a pitch to force in Paige Rhodes. Emily Dorko then singled through the right side to plate Leo. After a strike out, Katie Brophy singled to left field to drive in Christine Robinson and Salerno with the final runs of the frame.

The Panthers extended their lead to 10-0 with three runs on two hits and three errors in the fifth inning. Brophy singled to center with one out to drive in Rochelle Noren, who reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a single by Shay Craig and a fielding error by the center fielder, Amanda Dolan reached on an error by the first baseman, allowing Brophy to score from third. Following a strikeout by pinch-hitter Deirdre White, Leo struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch, allowing Craig to score from third.

The Dolphins battled back in the bottom of the fifth with four runs on three hits and an error. Sophomore first baseman Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski) reached third on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder with one out. After Cashel reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Ford and VanGorder singled to the shortstop, Schweikert greeted Adelphi reliever Natalie Camarda by drilling a 1-1 pitch over the fence in left field to make the score 10-4.

The Dolphins added one run on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cashel singled down the left field line with two outs and then stole second base. VanGorder then plated Cashel with a single to center.

Despite loading the bases with zero outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Dolphins couldn't cut into their deficit any further.

Vanacore, who pitched the first two innings of the contest and the final two and two-thirds, suffered the loss after giving up Leo's home run in the second inning. Robinson got the win for the Panthers after scattering five hits over four and one-third innings. VanGorder registered four of Le Moyne's 11 hits in the contest.

Le Moyne (10-14, NE-10 8-6), which has dropped six conference games for the first time since the 2006 season, returns to action for a doubleheader at Saint Michael's on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
