Syracuse, N.Y. - Following a successful 11-year tenure at Le Moyne College, Steve Owens has accepted the head baseball coaching position at Bryant University, a member of the Northeast Conference. After taking the helm in 2000, Owens led the Dolphins to 11 consecutive winning seasons, three NCAA Tournament appearances and an overall record of 342-217 (.611).
Heading into the 2010 campaign, Owens had the 13th highest winning percentage among all active Division I coaches in the country. The 2004 & 2006 MAAC Coach of the Year and the 2003 ABCA/Diamond Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Owens is one of the youngest coaches in the country to reach the 500-win plateau.
The Dolphins qualified for the MAAC tournament in seven of his first eight seasons, winning four regular season titles in five years. Including his eight-year stint at Cortland State, Owens is 587-299-1 (.672) in 19 seasons as a college head coach, averaging over 31 wins per year.
During his tenure at Le Moyne, Owens saw 14 players drafted in the MLB amateur draft and 22 sign professional contacts. Owens was only the third head coach at Le Moyne since 1969 and holds the second-longest tenure with 11 seasons, behind only Dick Rockwell's 28 years of service.
