Philadelphia, Pa. – Mario Gutierez won in straight sets in singles action and teamed for a doubles victory to lead Chestnut Hill to an 8-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team on Monday afternoon at the Chestnut Hill College Tennis Courts.

Gutierez defeated junior Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) at first singles by back-to-back scores of 6-3. In first doubles action, Gutierez teamed with Pat Joson to defeat Sullivan and senior Ken Scheiffer (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) 8-6. Juan Pablo Farah was victorious over Scheiffer at second singles 6-2, 6-3.

Le Moyne picked up its lone win at third singles as junior Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus) beat Joson in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. In second doubles action, Gleason and classmate Joseph Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) fell to Farah and Julius Twyman 9-7. Persia was downed in his fourth singles match with Manuel Ceniceros by a score of 6-2, 6-4.

At fifth singles, junior James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) was edged by Twyman 7-5, 6-4. Junior Cameron Smith (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) was downed at sixth singles by Jeramy Solema 6-4, 6-2. The Griffins picked up their final point in third doubles as Ceniceros and Solema topped Shelp and freshman Daryl Johnson">Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) 8-3.

Le Moyne returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday against Assumption at 11:00 a.m.
