Worcester, Mass. – Junior Scott Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a 140-70 win over Pace on Sunday afternoon at Assumption College's Plourde Recreation Center. On the women's side, the Dolphins topped the Setters, 136-120, but fell to host Assumption, 177-78.
Thieke opened the meet by swimming the first leg for the victorious 400-yard medley relay team that touched the wall in 3:58.82. Thieke was joined in the relay by classmate James Walker (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), senior Joe Taylor (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and freshman Thomas Bacon (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili). Thieke later posted wins in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.58 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.96. Walker also added an individual win to the relay victory by touching the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.32. Senior Drew Acquaviva (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) won a pair of events on the afternoon. He registered a time of 25.42 seconds to win the 50-yard backstroke and posted a time of 5:14.57 to top the field in the 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Connor Agen (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) picked up Le Moyne's first individual win of the day with a time of 10:52.22 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Junior Tim Gallivan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.39, while sophomore Tyler Olson (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.42 seconds.
On the women's side, senior Katie O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) remained undefeated in individual events on the year by posting three victories on the afternoon to improve to 11-0. She picked up her first win of the day in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.40. O'Donnell later won the 100-yard freestyle by touching the wall first in 54.62 seconds and picked up Le Moyne's third and final win in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.81 seconds.
Le Moyne returns to the pool for its final dual meet of the fall semester on Saturday at The College of Saint Rose at 1:00 p.m. The meet will decide the seventh and eighth points of the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions, which the Golden Knights currently lead 4-2.
