Ithaca, N.Y. – Senior All-American Katie O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) won four individual events to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving teams at the three-day, nine-team Ithaca College Invitational at the Ithaca Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion. Senior Drew Acquaviva (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) led the men's team with a pair of victories at the meet.
O'Donnell, who improved to 17-0 in individual events on the year, earned 128 of Le Moyne's 488.5 points on the weekend. She registered her first victory of the invitational on Friday night by winning the 200-yard IM for the fourth time this season with a season-best time of 2:06.72. On Saturday morning, she won the 100-yard butterfly with a school-record time of 56.64 seconds to eclipse her previous mark of 57.18 set at the UNYSCSA Championships on February 19, 2010. She registered her third victory of the meet on Saturday night by touching the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 56.66 seconds. She posted her fourth win on Sunday with a season-best time of 2:03.44 to capture the 200-yard backstroke for the third time this season.
Senior Mary Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) got the Dolphins 29 points by scoring in three individual events. She turned in a 21st-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:02.48. She had season-best times and placed in the top-15 in each of the backstroke events. She was 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.71) and 15th in the 200-yard backstroke (2.14.98). Senior Meghan Shea (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/U. of Bridgeport) tallied 35 points for the team in the two diving events. She placed 12th in the one-meter event with 350.25 points and ninth in the three-meter event with 378.35 points.
Acquaviva tallied 90 points in his three individual events. On Friday night, he picked up 26 points by placing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 21.51 seconds. On Saturday night, he won the 100-yard backstroke for the third time this season with a season-best time of 50.86 seconds. He closed out his performance at the meet by winning the 200-yard backstroke for the fifth time this year by touching the wall in 1:53.73, his fastest time of the season.
Juniors Scott Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Tim Gallivan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) each recorded double-digit points over the three days. Thieke placed 15th in the 400-yard IM in a season-best time of 4:28.42 to record 12 points and garnered four points in the 200-yard breaststroke by placing 21st in a season-best 2:25.26. Gallivan earned 10 points for the Dolphins by registering nine in the 100-yard butterfly with a 17th-place finish in 54.37 seconds and adding one point with a 24th-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.50.
The Dolphins return to the pool on Sunday, January 15th when they host Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Michael's at 1:00 p.m.
