Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore Allie Scorzelli (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) won three individual events to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team to a 156-136 win over Pace on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. Senior Drew Acquaviva (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory to lead the men's team to a 149-62 win over the Setters.
Scorzelli picked up her first victory of the day with a time of 2:02.95 in the 200-yard freestyle. She later won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.13 and the 200-yard IM in 2:20.39. Senior Katie O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) remained unbeaten on the year with a pair of victories. She improved to 21-0 by winning the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.64 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.78. She also swam the third leg for the victorious 200-yard medley team. She was joined on the team that finished in 1:55.64 by classmates Mary Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Maureen McDonough (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph Hill Academy) and junior Jacqueline Daly (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush). Sophomore Sarah Connelly (Peru, N.Y./Peru) swept the two breaststroke events, winning the 100 yard in 1:13.16 and the 200 yard in 2:36.47. Senior diver Meghan Shea (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/U. of Bridgeport) improved to 10-0 in dual meets by sweeping the two diving events. She scored 180.10 in the first event and 246.20 in the second event.
On the men's side, Acquaviva was one of seven Dolphins to win an individual event. He captured the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.85 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best 49.11 seconds. He also teamed with freshman Richard Divaccaro (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown), junior Tim Gallivan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and freshman Thomas Bacon (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in 1:42.54. Senior Joe Taylor (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) registered a pair of wins in his final home meet. He won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.04 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:37.61. Sophomore Connor Agen (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) picked up Le Moyne's first individual victory of the day by touching the wall in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a season-best 10:21.04. Bacon followed by winning the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 1:56.02. Junior Scott Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.11, his fastest time of the year in the event, while sophomore Greg Sanzari (Newington, Conn./Newington) captured the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best 2:15.60. Senior Jack Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) won the first diving event with 127.25 points.
Le Moyne, which honored the 11 members of the senior class (Acquaviva, Luke Baker (Weedsport, N.Y./Weedsport), Chidsey, Andrew Dearing (Kenmore, N.Y./Canisius), Fletcher, Cathy Kennedy (Troy, N.Y./Troy Catholic), Ken Margrey (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker, McDonough, O'Donnell, Shea and Taylor) prior to the meet, returns to the pool at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships from February 2-4 at Southern Connecticut State.
