Waltham, Mass. – Four Dolphins won two events each, but the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team was edged by Bentley University, 148.5-142.5, on Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center pool. Freshman Tara O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) led the Le Moyne women with three victories in a 176-120 loss to the Falcons.
On the men's side, freshman Josh Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) recorded a pair of school-record and NCAA-qualifying performances in the diving events. On the one-meter board, Byrne was victorious with 298.15 points, while he won on the three-meter board with 295.35 points. Junior Connor Agen (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) picked up Le Moyne's first of 10 victories on the day by touching the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:43.45. Agen later topped the field in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.69. Senior Scott Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) registered a victory in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.62 and captured the 200-yard IM in 2:06.22. Junior Tyler Olson (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) was Le Moyne's fourth dual-winner by recording victories in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.27 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best 49.36 seconds. Freshman Ben Verdi (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's) topped the field in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.91, while classmate Daniel Tarbrake (Beltsville, Md./Gonzaga College High) touched the wall first in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:02.42.
O'Donnell picked up her first victory of the afternoon with a time of 1:58.88 in the 200-yard freestyle. In her second event of the day, the 200-yard backstroke, O'Donnell touched the wall first in 2:09.50, while she picked up her third victory with a time of 2:13.42 in the 200-yard IM. Junior Allie Scorzelli (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) registered Le Moyne's fourth victory by topping the field with a time of 2:22.58 in the 200-yard butterfly. The quartet of freshman Katelyn Votapka (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and seniors Maureen Donovan (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), Julia Jones (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and Jacqueline Daly (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) closed out the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:48.93.
Le Moyne returns to the pool on Sunday, November 11 at 12:00 p.m. The men and women will face off against Pace University, while the women will also host Assumption College.
