#6 BASEBALL EDGED BY SETON HILL IN SLUGFEST, 17-16

Williamston, N.C. – Nick Sell singled to left field to drive in the game-winning in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Seton Hill a 17-16 win over the sixth-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team on Friday afternoon at the Riverside Spring Classic. The teams combined to hit 13 home runs, one shy of the Division II record set on April 6, 2001 in a game between St. Mary's University and Incarnate Word.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the contest with a run on two hits in the first inning. Sophomore left fielder Pat Wiese (Fayetteville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) led off the game with a single. Senior right fielder Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) followed with a single to the third baseman to move sophomore pinch-runner Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) to second base. Following a ground out to move each runner up a base, Reynolds scored on a wild pitch.

Le Moyne extended its lead to three with a pair of runs in the second inning. After junior Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) doubled with one out, junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) smacked a home run over the fence in center field.

Seton Hill (3-0) answered back with seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Following a lead-off walk, Cody Herald blasted a home run to right field. After the Griffins loaded the bases on a pair of hit batsman and a walk around a sacrifice bunt, Jackson Boyd drew a two-out walk to force in Josh Logan and tie the game at three. Following a wild pitch that allowed Brendan Costantino to score, Sell drilled a three-run homer to right field.

Following a strikeout to open the top of the third, senior third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square), junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and junior catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to right field to pull the Dolphins within 7-6.

The Griffins got two of the runs back in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Alex Hetrick drilled a two-run homer to right field that also scored Herald, who led off the frame with a single to center.

Le Moyne evened the game at nine apiece with three runs on two hits in the fourth inning. Following a one-out single to right by Ciraco and a walk by senior center fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), Marra launched a three-run home run over the wall in center.

The Dolphins took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Junior first baseman Kody O'Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) led off the frame by blasting an 0-2 pitch over the fence in center. After a walk and stolen base by Wiley and a line out, Reynolds doubled to left to plate Wiley.

Seton Hill regained the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fifth frame. Michael LeViseur led off with a single to right and advanced to third on an error as Herald reached on a fielder's choice. After another error loaded the bases, Costantino doubled to center to clear the bases and give the Griffins a 12-11 lead. Costantino then stole third and came in to score on a ground out by Hetrick. Nick Erminio capped the scoring in the inning with a solo home run to center.

The Dolphins responded with two runs in the sixth inning on two hits. Botsford opened the inning by hitting his seventh career home run to right field. After Marra was hit by a pitch and O'Connor was walked around a pair of outs, Wiley singled to right to drive in Mahoney, who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Griffins extended their lead back to three with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth. After an out to open the inning, LeViseur drilled a home run to center field. Following singles by Herald and Logan, Costantino singled to left field to plate Herald.

After a scoreless seventh inning, the only scoreless inning of the game, the Dolphins scored three times in the top of the eighth to knot the game at 16. Following a single to right by Stinson and a double to center by junior first baseman Paul Speicher (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury), Wiley singled to left to knock in Stinson and Speicher. After an out, Redmond tied the score with his second homer of the day and the fourth of his career.

After the Dolphins were unable to plate a runner from third with one out in the top of the ninth, the Griffins took advantage of a Le Moyne error to win the game. Pat McCarthy led off by reaching on an error and advanced to second on the error. After Boyd was hit by a pitch, Sell singled to left on a 2-0 pitch to drive in McCarthy with the winning run.

Senior righty Ed Kohout">Ed Kohout (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence/Genesee C.C.) took the loss on the mound for the Dolphins after yielding three runs (two earned) on seven hits over three and two-thirds innings pitched out of the bullpen, while striking out four. Ciraco and Wiley led Le Moyne's 20-hit attack with three hits apiece, while five other Dolphins added two hits each. Marra finished the game with four runs batted in, while Wiley and Redmond had three apiece. Christian Muth earned the win after striking out three batters over the final two innings.

Le Moyne (2-1) returns to action at the Riverside Spring Classic on Saturday against Glenville State at 2:00 p.m.
