#14 BASEBALL CLOSES OUT PLAY AT SAVANNAH INVITATIONAL WITH 5-2 WIN OVER CALIFORNIA (PA.)

Savannah, Ga. – Junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) had two hits and knocked in two runs to lead the 14th-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team to a 5-2 win over California (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.

The Dolphins scored the game's first run in the second inning on one hit. Mahoney led off the frame with a triple and came in to score on a sacrifice fly to left field by junior catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley).

California took the lead with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out and runners on first and second, center fielder Troy Handza singled to drive in left fielder Ben Carson, who reached on a fielder's choice. Following a walk by first baseman Kyle Petty to load the bases, second baseman Kyle Bowser recorded a sacrifice fly to left to plate third baseman Chuck Gasti, who singled with one out.

Le Moyne regained the lead with three runs on three hits and a California error in the eighth inning. Junior right fielder Kody O'Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) led off by reaching second on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder. Following a sacrifice bunt by junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) and a single by senior center fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), junior left fielder Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) singled to drive in O'Connor with the tying run. Two batters later, Mahoney singled to plate Botsford and Wiley.

The Dolphins tacked on an insurance run in the ninth inning to close out the game's scoring. Senior designated hitter Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) bunted for a single to open the frame, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a single by O'Connor.

Junior Derek Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie) improved to 3-0 on the year after striking out six batters over seven innings on the mound, while yielding two runs on four hits. Freshman Ryan Davis">Ryan Davis (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) earned his first save by tossing two scoreless innings, while striking out two batters. Botsford and Wiley joined Mahoney in posting a pair of hits. Kyle Thomas suffered the loss for the Vulcans after giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits over innings.

Le Moyne (9-4), which won five of its last six games at the Savannah Invitational, returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Philadelphia University at 12:00 p.m.
