#19 BASEBALL DOWNS ADELPHI IN SOUTHWEST DIVISION ACTION, 6-4

Garden City, N.Y. – Senior third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in to lead the 19th-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team to a 6-4 win over Adelphi on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Bonomo Field.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with a run on one hit and an Adelphi error in the second inning. Sophomore left fielder Pat Wiese (Fayetteville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) doubled down the left field line with one out and moved to third as senior catcher Kyle Kalaka (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) reached on a fielding error by the right fielder. Junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to plate Wiese.

Le Moyne extended its lead to 4-0 with three runs on two hits and an Adelphi error in the fifth inning. Senior center fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) walked on five pitches to open the frame and proceeded to steal second. Following an out and a walk by Marra, junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) singled up the middle to drive in Botsford and Marra. Following a single by Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School), Wiese reached on a fielder's choice to plate Mahoney.

The Dolphins tacked on a run on two hits in the sixth inning. Redmond led off the frame with a single to the shortstop. Following a pair of fly outs, Marra doubled down the left field line to knock in Redmond.

Adelphi narrowed its deficit to two with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Vincent Sharkey walked and second baseman Craig Matteo was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Following consecutive strikeouts, third baseman Richard Mejia singled through the right side to plate Sharkey. After center fielder Justin Farnum singled up the middle to load the bases, Houghton singled up the middle to drive in Matteo and Mejia.

Le Moyne pushed its lead to 6-3 with a run on two hits in the top of the eighth inning. Botsford singled to the pitcher with one out and then stole second. After junior right fielder Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) walked, Marra singled through the left side to load the bases. Following an Adelphi pitching change, Mahoney knocked in Botsford with a sac fly to right.

The Panthers got the run back in the bottom of the inning, but could not cut into their deficit any further. Mejia singled to left center with two outs and came around to score on a triple to center by Farnum.

Junior right-hander Derek Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie) ran his record to 5-0 by striking out six batters over six innings, while yielding three runs on six hits. Senior righty Erik Lambe">Erik Lambe (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) picked up his first save of the season by tossing the final three innings of the contest and striking out four batters. Jimmy Milani took the loss for the Panthers after giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits over four and one-third innings.

Le Moyne (19-4-1, 5-0-1 NE-10, 2-0 SW), which is unbeaten over its last 14 games (13-0-1), continues its series with Adelphi on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
