Box Score 2 Greenwood, S.C. – Melanie Davis went 4-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored to lead Lander to a doubleheader sweep of the Le Moyne College softball team on Monday afternoon at Doug Spears Field. The Bearcats took the opener, 9-1, in six innings and the nightcap, 2-1.
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Chasity Davis led off with a single to right center and moved to second on a passed ball. After a walk to Casey Corbitt and a single to third base by Alyssa Hartley to load the bases, Melanie Davis drew a walk to force in Chasity Davis. Brittney Sheriff followed with a single to plate Corbitt, while Hartley came in to score as Taylor Donson drew a walk.
The Dolphins got one run back in the top of the third inning. Senior right fielder Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) singled to left with one out and moved to second on a single by sophomore left fielder Sarah Tram (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool). Two batters later, freshman second baseman Kristie Capuano (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) singled to center to drive in Cashel.
Lander extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third on four hits. After Hartley singled to second with two outs and Melanie Davis doubled to left center, Sheriff doubled to center to knock in Hartley and Davis.
The Bearcats added two runs on three hits and a Le Moyne error in the fifth inning. Melanie Davis led off with a single down the left field line and moved to second on a single by Sheriff. After a pair of outs and a passed ball, Jaime Presnell singled to center to drive in Davis and Sheriff.
Melanie Davis ended the game in the bottom of the sixth due to the mercy rule with a two-run homer to left.
Sophomore Amy Bogolin (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) took the loss for the Dolphins after giving up three runs on four hits over one-plus inning of work. Amanda Hamby earned the win for the Bearcats after yielding just one run over six innings pitched.
In the nightcap, the Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the first inning with an unearned run. Sheriff led off with a single to left and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, Sheriff scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Presnell.
Lander doubled its lead in the second frame. Corbitt led off with a single to left, moved to second on a sac bunt and advanced to third on a single to right by Hartley. Melanie Davis then singled to left to drive in Corbitt.
Le Moyne was able to cut into its deficit with a run on two hits in the fourth inning. Senior catcher Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) singled to right with two outs and moved to second on a wild pitch. Capuano then singled to left to drive in Edmondson.
Sophomore Sarah Harrison">Sarah Harrison (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) suffered the loss in the circle for the Dolphins after yielding the two runs (one earned) over six innings pitched. Hayley Leissner registered the victory after striking out five over seven innings.
Le Moyne (2-4) returns to action on Wednesday at USC Aiken at 3:00 p.m.
