#14 BASEBALL EDGED BY WAYNE STATE (MICH.), 5-2, ON SECOND DAY OF SAVANNAH INVITATIONAL

Savannah, Ga. – Ryan Buter doubled in the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to lead Wayne State University to a 5-2 win over the 14th-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team on Monday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the game with two runs on two hits and a Le Moyne error in the third inning. After catcher Brad Guenther singled with one out and shortstop Andrew Ciennik was hit by a pitch, third baseman Alex Trojan singled to drive in Guenther. Right fielder Kasey Koster followed with a sacrifice fly to right to plate Ciennik.

Le Moyne got one run back in the bottom of the fourth as junior first baseman Kody O'Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) blasted a two-out solo home run.

The Dolphins evened the score at two apiece with a run on one hit in the bottom of the fifth. Junior left fielder Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a single by senior third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square). Consecutive walks by junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and junior designated hitter Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) forced in Wiley.

After three scoreless innings, the Warriors struck for three runs on five hits in the ninth inning. J.J. Ciennik led off with a double and came around to score on the double by Buter. After Phil Swanson reached on a bunt single and stole second, Guenther singled to drive in pinch-runner Justin DeFrancis. Andrew Ciennik then reached on a fielder's choice to knock in Swanson.

Senior Erik Lambe">Erik Lambe (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) took the loss for the Dolphins after giving up three runs on five hits in two innings of work out of the bullpen. Ethan Vasiliauskas earned the win for Wayne State after tossing three scoreless innings in relief, while striking out four. Billy Hurley earned the save after striking out two in the ninth inning.

Le Moyne (4-3) returns to the diamond on Tuesday against Wayne State (Neb.) College at 10:00 a.m.
