CIRACO LEADS #14 BASEBALL TO 6-3 WIN OVER WAYNE STATE (NEB.) COLLEGE

Savannah, Ga. – Senior right fielder Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the 14th-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team to a 6-3 win over Wayne State (Neb.) College on Tuesday afternoon as part of the Savannah Invitational at Grayson Stadium.

The Dolphins jumped in front of the Wildcats with four runs on six hits in the second inning. Junior catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) doubled to left center with one out and advanced to third on single by Ciraco. Sophomore designated hitter Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) followed with a double to right to drive in Stinson. Junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) then knocked in Ciraco as he reached on a fielder's choice. Following a single up the middle by senior center fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), junior left fielder Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) singled to plate Redmond. Senior third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) singled to drive in Botsford with the final run of the frame.

Wayne State cut its deficit in half with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, catcher Kevin Anderson walked with two outs and came around to score on a double by second baseman Brett Keim. The Wildcats pulled within two runs with a run on four hits in the sixth. Third baseman Jake Ritzdorf singled to open the frame and moved to second on a one-out single by Keim. Center fielder Pat Burkhart then singled to drive in Ritzdorf.

The Dolphins got one run back in the seventh inning and the other back in the eighth inning. Botsford led off the seventh by drawing a walk, moved to second on a bunt single by Wiley and advanced to third on a passed ball. Marra then lifted a sacrifice fly to right to drive in Botsford. In the eighth, Ciraco singled with one out, stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Reynolds walked, Redmond singled to plate Ciraco.

The Wildcats capped the scoring in the game as first baseman Travis Parsons led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to right field.

Senior southpaw Mark Kuzma">Mark Kuzma (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) improved to 2-0 on the season by striking out seven batters, while yielding two runs over five and one-third innings pitched. Wiley and Marra each accounted for two of Le Moyne's 12 hits. Eric Schwieger took the loss for the Wildcats after giving up four runs over four innings of work.

Le Moyne (5-3), which snapped a two-game losing streak, returns to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against the Wildcats beginning at 11:00 a.m.
