Rochester, N.Y. – Three Dolphins each won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a 153-145 win over Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers won the women's meet by a score of 199-99.
The trio of sophomores Ben Verdi (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's) and Daniel Tarbrake (Beltsville, Md./Gonzaga College High) and senior Tyler Olson (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) each posted two individual wins and combined with freshman Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) to claim the meet-opening 400-yard medley relay in 3:40.08.
Verdi was the first of the three to record a victory by touching the wall in 1:00.20 in the 100-yard breaststroke. He then won the 200-yard breaststroke by almost three seconds with a time of 2:17.95.
Tarbrake collected his first win of the meet with a time of 2:05.53 in the 200-yard butterfly. In the second-to-last individual event of the day, the 100-yard butterfly, he posted a time of 54.28 seconds as the Dolphins took the top three spots.
Olson topped the field in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.13 seconds for his first win. He then won the 100-yard freestyle by posting a time of 48.82 seconds.
Senior Connor Agen (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) also registered a pair of wins by sweeping the two distance events. He captured the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:34.72 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:04.92.
Buff registered Le Moyne's last win of the meet by touching the wall first in the 200-yard IM in 2:01.69.
On the women's side, sophomore Tara O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) and senior Sarah Connelly (Peru, N.Y./Peru) won two individual events each. O'Donnell, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week, picked up her first win of the day with a time of 1:59.99 in the 200-yard freestyle. She added her second victory by topping the field in the 200-yard backstroke by over five seconds with a time of 2:13.14.
Connelly earned her first win by touching the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.90. She completed the sweep of the breaststroke events with a time of 2:38.00 over 200 yards.
After placing second in the one-meter diving event with 197.75 points, freshman Melissa Boyd (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) won the three-meter diving event with 213.70 points.
The Dolphins are back in the pool on Saturday against The College of Saint Rose at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. The meet will decide the seventh and eighth points of the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions, which Saint Rose currently leads 4-2.
