Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior Tyler Olson (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) won two events and teamed on a pair of relay victories to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a 155.5-132.5 win over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. On the women's side, the Falcons recorded a 197-93 victory over the Dolphins.
Olson opened the meet by teaming with Ricky Divaccaro (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown), sophomore Ben Verdi (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's) and graduate student Tim Gallivan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:38.05. He then posted a time of 22.18 seconds to win the 50-yard freestyle, while picking up the victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.51 seconds. Olson closed out the meet by posting a split of 21.33 seconds as he came from behind to give the Dolphins the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. He was joined by Divaccaro and sophomores Ronnie Lowe (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) and Chris Mosconi (Gloversville, N.Y./Gloversville) to post a time of 1:29.49. Verdi added a pair of individual victories. He topped the field in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.75 and won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.02. Sophomores Daniel Tarbrake (Beltsville, Md./Gonzaga College High) and Josh Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and freshman Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) were also dual winners. After winning the 200-yard butterfly in 1:59.41, Tarbrake touched the wall first in a pool-record time of 52.40 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly. Ryan Lowrie established the previous pool record of 52.41 seconds in 2006. Byrne won the first one-meter diving event with 195.70 points and captured the second one-meter diving event with 304.05 points. Buff won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.05 and then topped the field in the last individual event, the 200-yard IM, in 2:03.20.
On the women's side, a pair of sophomores, Katelyn Votapka (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and Tara O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem), were double-winners. Votapka picked up Le Moyne's first win of the meet by touching the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:28.32. She picked up the team's fourth victory of the day with a time of 5:34.18 to capture the 500-yard freestyle. A six-time dual winner as a freshman en route to earning Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year honors, O'Donnell topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.20. She then was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.44.
Le Moyne returns to action Sunday, November 10 at Pace University at 2:00 p.m. In addition to squaring off against the Setters, the women's team will also be competing against Assumption College.
