New Haven, Conn. – Caroline Staudle scored in the 12th minute to lead Southern Connecticut State University to a 2-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.
After 11 minutes without a shot to open the game, the Owls scored the only goal they would need at the 11:16 mark. Bryana Poulin sent a pass from the right side of the field into the box, where Staudle headed the ball into the back of the net for her third tally of the season.
The Dolphins had an opportunity to knot the game at one apiece in the 17th minute, but Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Erica Ridella moved to her right to turn away a penalty kick by sophomore forward
Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) headed towards the lower left corner of the goal.
The Owls doubled their lead just over 16 minutes into the second half. Victoria Conde sent a pass from the sideline to Hannah Spreckley, who redirected the ball into the box, where it was collected by Victoria Buonanni after she evaded the defense and fired into the back of the goal for her first career marker.
Junior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was not credited with a save in the setback. Ridella posted three of her four saves in the first half to earn her fourth straight victory. The Dolphins registered 14 of the game's 18 shots, including nine of the 12 in the second half, while taking four of the five corner kicks.
Le Moyne (4-5-1, 2-3-1 NE-10), which has dropped back-to-back NE-10 games for the first time this season, returns to action on Tuesday against Assumption College at 3:00 p.m.
