Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior forward
Kelly Ristoff (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Siena) was a part of both goals as the Le Moyne College women's soccer team upset Northeast-10 Conference-leading Assumption College, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon in conference play at Ted Grant Field.
The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just over 11 minutes into the contest. On a pass played up the middle of the field, Ristoff beat Assumption goalkeeper Rachel Edgin to the ball 30 yards in front of the net. Prior to getting knocked to the ground by Edgin, Ristoff played the ball into space near the top left corner of the penalty box. Senior midfielder
Lindsey Bakal (Newark Valley, N.Y./Newark Valley) ran onto the ball and slotted a shot from 12 yards out into the open net for her first goal of the season.
Le Moyne, which improves to 4-0-1 in its last five games against Assumption, with all four wins coming by a 2-1 margin, doubled its advantage just past the game's 29-minute mark. Freshman forward
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) collected the ball on the right side of the penalty box and drew the attention of the Assumption defense and Edgin. Colegrove centered the ball to Ristoff, who got off a shot before Edgin could recover and ripped it into the lower left corner of the net for her eighth goal of the campaign, which at the time was the second-most in the conference.
After each team had two shots saved over the opening 18 minutes of the second half, the Greyhounds cut their deficit in half with 26:05 left in the contest. After collecting a loose ball in the upper right corner of the penalty box, Amanda Arnold drilled a shot into the upper left corner of the net from 16 yards out for her eighth goal of the year, tying Ristoff for the second-most in the conference.
The Greyhounds increased their offensive attack and put three shots on goal over the next 15 minutes, but junior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was able to turn away all three shots to keep the Dolphins in front.
Assumption had one final chance with 1:27 remaining, but Jaclyn Tomasello sent her shot wide right.
Corsaro finished with a season-high seven saves, including five in the second half, to earn her 10th career victory between the pipes. Edgin recorded eight saves, including five after halftime, in suffering her second loss of the season. The teams each recorded 18 shots in the contest, while Assumption registered nine of the game's 11 corner kicks.
Le Moyne (5-5-1, 3-3-1 NE-10), which won for the first time this season when giving up a goal, returns to action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University at 12:00 p.m.
