Springfield, Mass. – Freshman forward
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) scored midway through the first half to give the Le Moyne College women's soccer team a 1-0 win at American International College on Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Abdow Field.
After taking five of the game's first six shots, the Dolphins struck for the only goal they would need just over 26 minutes into the contest. After taking a pass from senior midfielder
Lindsey Bakal (Newark Valley, N.Y./Newark Valley), Colegrove fired a shot into the top left corner of the net for her second goal of the season, both of which have been game-winners.
American International, which won the East Region and advanced to the NCAA semifinals last year, countered with four shots over the next eight minutes, but only one was put on target and it was saved by junior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).
Midway through the second half, the Yellow Jackets recorded three shots on goal in a span of five and one-half minutes, but Corsaro turned aside each of them.
American International kept up the offensive attack in the final eight minutes of the game, getting off four shots, but Corsaro stopped the two shots put on goal to keep the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard.
Corsaro finished the game with a season-high eight saves, six of which came in the second half, to register her seventh shutout victory of the season. The seven shutouts in a single season are the most in the program's history, eclipsing the mark of six set by Suzanne Mullen in 2000. Sam Tabak recorded two saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets. American International recorded a 15-10 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 mark in the second half, while taking nine of the 10 corner kicks.
Le Moyne (7-5-1, 5-3-1 NE-10), which has recorded its second three-game win streak of the season for the first time since the 1993 season, takes on Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
