MEN’S SOCCER HOLDS ON FOR 2-1 VICTORY AT ASSUMPTION

Worcester, Mass. – Junior midfielder Anthony Scaravillo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) scored the game-winning goal midway through the first half to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Assumption College on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard just over 10 minutes into the contest off an Assumption miscue. Off a corner kick by junior back Mark Gentile (Walworth, N.Y./Wayne), an Assumption defender attempted to head the ball away from the goal, but deflected it into the net.

Le Moyne, which was ranked seventh in the first edition of the NCAA East Regional rankings announced earlier this afternoon, doubled its lead with 12:43 remaining in the first half. After senior midfielder Zachary MacNabb (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/UNC Pembroke) clanged a shot off the right goal post, Scaravillo netted his second straight rebound goal by knocking the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

The Greyhounds had a chance to cut into their deficit, but freshman goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) saved the shot by John Aviza with one second left in the first half.

After the Dolphins dominated the number of shots over the opening 25 minutes of the second half, taking nine of the 10 shots in the span, Assumption got on the scoreboard. Nemanja Kaurin carried the ball down the right side before sending a pass into the right corner of the box, where Glenn LiBassi was able to slip a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

In an attempt to knot the score before time expired, the Greyhounds put four shots on goal over the final nine minutes of the contest. Beaury was able to turn away each of the four shots, the last of which came with just 37 seconds left off the foot of goalkeeper Dana King.

Beaury registered six saves, including five in the second half, to earn his 10th victory of the season, the most by a first-year goalkeeper in the program's history. King recorded seven saves, including four in the second half, in the setback for the Greyhounds. The Dolphins posted a 20-11 advantage in shots, including an 12-9 edge in the second half, while holding a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (10-4, 6-4 NE-10), which improved to 3-4 when allowing a goal, returns home to face top-ranked and defending National Champion Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Penmen are unbeaten in their last 37 games (35-0-2), the second-longest unbeaten streak in Division II history, and are undefeated in its last 32 Northeast-10 regular season and tournament games (31-0-1).
