WOMEN’S SOCCER TOPS SAINT MICHAEL’S, 2-0, IN KEY NE-10 MATCH-UP

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team got goals from senior midfielder Lindsey Bakal (Newark Valley, N.Y./Newark Valley) and freshman forward Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) to defeat Saint Michael's College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in a key Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Ted Grant Field.

Following four errant shots by the Dolphins, they got on the scoreboard in the 29th minute. Just 25 seconds after entering the game, freshman midfielder Emily Goldasic (Thornhill, Ontario/Elizabeth Catholic) collected the ball on the right sideline and fed Colegrove, who then crossed the ball into the penalty box. Off a bounce, Bakal one-timed a shot inside the left post from 12 yards out for her second goal of the season.

The Purple Knights put a shot on goal seven minutes later, but junior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) turned the shot away.

Saint Michael's increased its offensive output over the first half of the second stanza. During the span, Corsaro registered four saves to keep the Purple Knights off the scoreboard.

The Dolphins doubled their lead with just over 15 minutes remaining. After receiving the ball in the center of the field, weaved through the Saint Michael's defense, dribbled around the goalkeeper and then slipped a shot into the open net for her third goal of the season.

Corsaro registered five saves to earn her eighth shutout victory of the season, the second-most in the Northeast-10. Aubrey Ouellet made one save in the loss for the Purple Knights. The Dolphins registered a 9-7 edge in shots, including a 6-1 advantage in the first half, while posting a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (8-7-1, 6-5-1 NE-10), which has won three straight home games, returns to action on Wednesday against Pace University at 3:00 p.m.
