BASEBALL REGISTERS 3-2 VICTORY OVER YOUNG HARRIS TO EARN SERIES SPLIT

Young Harris, Ga. – Senior left fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) singled in the game-winning run in the eighth inning to give the Le Moyne College baseball team a 3-2 win over Young Harris College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Dolphins opened the game with two runs on two hits and two Young Harris errors in the first inning. Sophomore second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) reached on catcher's interference to start the game and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Sophomore shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) then singled to center field to drive in Charbonneau, while taking second on a fielding error by the center fielder. Two batters later, sophomore designated hitter Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) singled to center field to knock in Swetman from third.

After not getting a runner past first base over the first five innings, the Mountain Lions got on the scoreboard with a run on two hits and a Le Moyne error in the bottom of the sixth inning. Center fielder Josh Rudnik singled to left field with one out and then advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff attempt. Following a walk and a strikeout, left fielder David Atwood singled to center to drive in Rudnik.

Young Harris evened the score at two apiece in the seventh inning with a run on two hits. Second baseman Tom Valichka led off with a double to left center and then advanced to third on a ground out. Two batters later, pinch-hitter Nick Sexton singled to second base to knock in Valichka.

The Dolphins regained the lead in their next time up to bat with one run on two hits. Swetman and West drew one-out, seven-pitch walks around a single up the middle by sophomore first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) to load the bases. On the second pitch he saw, Reynolds knocked a single into right field to plate Swetman with the go-ahead run.

Junior lefty Bobby Renaud (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) took over on the mound in the bottom of the eighth and retired the side on nine pitches. Renaud closed out the victory in the ninth on eight pitches. Charbonneau recorded the first out of the frame with a leaping catch on a liner by Atwood, while junior right fielder Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger/Onondaga C.C.) made a diving catch in right center for the second out. Renaud struck out Valichka looking to end the game.

Redshirt freshman Ryan O'Kane (Memphis, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) earned the win after striking out seven batters over seven innings in his collegiate debut, while yielding two runs on five hits. Renaud posted two strikeouts over his two innings in his Le Moyne debut to earn the save. Taylor Topping took the loss out of the Young Harris bullpen after allowing one run over five innings.

Le Moyne (2-2) returns to the diamond on Friday against Tiffin University at 4:00 p.m. in the first game of the Riverside Spring Classic in Williamston, N.C.
