BASEBALL SWEPT BY No. 14 SHIPPENSBURG IN DOUBLEHEADER, 9-0, 5-3

Shippensburg, Pa. – Mark Curtis tossed six scoreless innings in the first game and catcher Jake Kennedy blasted a walk-off two-run homer in the nightcap as Shippensburg University swept the Le Moyne College baseball team in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Fairchild Field. The Raiders won the opener, 9-0, and recorded a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, Shippensburg scored two runs on two hits in the second inning for the only runs the Raiders would need. Second baseman Jimmy Spanos was hit by a pitch with one out and then left fielder Cody Ezolt singled to left field. Kennedy followed with a double to center to knock in Spanos. Right fielder Austin Allison then grounded out to drive in Ezolt.

The Raiders added four runs on two hits and one Le Moyne error in the fifth inning. Designated hitter Isaac Stern led off with a double to right field and then center fielder Michael Douglas drew a walk. After third baseman Cal Hogan reached on an error by the third baseman to load the bases, shortstop Mike Marcinko doubled down the left field line to plate Stern and Douglas. First baseman Pat Kregeloh then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Hogan. Following a pair of hit batsmen and a Le Moyne pitching change, Kennedy flied out to center to knock in Marcinko.

Shippensburg completed its scoring in the bottom of the sixth with three runs on two hits and a Le Moyne error. Stern led off with a single to right field and advanced to third on a throwing error by the third baseman as Hogan reached on a fielder's choice. Following the inning's second out, Kregeloh blasted a three-run homer to left field.

Redshirt freshman righty Ryan O'Kane (Memphis, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits over four and one-third innings. Freshman center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) recorded two of Le Moyne's four hits in the game. Curtis struck out five batters and allowed just four hits and one walk over six innings to pick up the win.

Following three and one-half scoreless innings to start the nightcap, the Raiders scored three times on three extra-base hits in the fourth. Marcinko doubled down the left field line with one out and Kregeloh followed by smacking a home run over the fence in left field. After Spanos doubled to left center and took third on a wild pitch, Ezolt flied out to left field to plate Spanos.

Le Moyne ended a 28-inning scoreless streak with a run on two hits in the top of the fifth. DiNorcia opened the frame by drawing a walk and then advanced to second on a one-out single to left field by senior left fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell). Sophomore second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) followed with a single to left field to knock in DiNorcia.

The Dolphins cut their deficit in half with one run in the sixth inning. Freshman catcher Matt Buroni (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) led off with a single to left field and then junior right fielder Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) drew a walk. Following a pop and a passed ball that allowed both runners to move up a base, DiNorcia lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Buroni.

Le Moyne tied the score in the top of the seventh inning as Reynolds launched a lead-off home run over the fence in left field.

Shippensburg answered back in the bottom of the seventh with two runs on two hits. After Stern led off with a single to the shortstop, Kennedy won the game with a home run to left field.

Freshman righty Damian Powers">Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) suffered his first loss after yielding five runs on nine hits over six-plus innings, while striking out three. Reynolds and Charbonneau each had two of Le Moyne's eight hits. Austin Bartley earned the win out of the bullpen after blowing the save opportunity.

Le Moyne (5-11), which has dropped four straight games, finishes its four-game series with Shippensburg on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
