Box Score Shippensburg, Pa. – Pat Kregeloh struck out 10 and second baseman Ryan McMillen drove in the winning run to lead 14th-ranked Shippensburg University to a 6-4 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Fairchild Fair.
The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning without getting a hit. Sophomore second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was hit by a pitch to open the frame and then sophomore designated hitter Trey West (Fairport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) drew a walk. After each runner moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt, Charbonneau scored on a wild pitch.
Shippensburg (11-3) answered with four runs on two hits and a Le Moyne fielding error in the bottom of the inning. First baseman Jimmy Spanos singled through the right side with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball. Following a fly out and a walk by left fielder Cody Ezolt, right fielder Austin Allison reached on a fielding error by the third baseman, which allowed Spanos to score. Ezolt then scored on a passed ball. After McMillen walked to put runners at the corners, center fielder Michael Douglas tripled to left center to knock in Allison and McMillen.
Le Moyne got two of the runs back in the third on a pair of hits. Freshman center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) singled to right with one out, stole second and then advanced to third on a passed ball. After sophomore first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) walked and stole second, Charbonneau singled to left to drive in DiNorcia and Wright.
The Dolphins tied the score at four in the top of the fourth on two hits. Junior right fielder Jeremy Mathers (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger/Onondaga C.C.) singled up the middle with one out and came around to score on a single to right center by sophomore shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima).
The Raiders regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Allison led off with a single to right, stole second and then took third on a passed ball. McMillen then grounded out to the second baseman to drive in Allison.
Shippensburg added an insurance run in the eighth inning on one hit and a Le Moyne error. Spanos opened the inning with a single to right, but was retired as catcher Jake Kennedy reached on a fielder's choice. Following an out and a walk by Allison, McMillen reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, which allowed Kennedy to score.
Freshman right-hander Ben Walsh">Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) took the loss on the mound after allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits over four and two-thirds innings pitched. Pat Kregeloh, who had five hits and seven RBI in the first three games of the series, struck out 10 over seven and one-third innings, while yielding four runs on seven hits, to earn the win. Austin Bartley earned the save by retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Le Moyne (5-12), which dropped three of the four games in last year's weekend series, is back in action on Tuesday against the University of Bridgeport at Dowling College in Brookhaven, N.Y. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
