Syracuse, N.Y. – Seventh-ranked and third-seeded LIU Post scored all six of the second half's goals to pull away for a 9-3 win over the third-ranked and second-seeded Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins, who dropped back-to-back games for the first time since suffering losses to Nazareth (March 26) and LIU Post (March 30) during the 2002 season, took their first of two leads with 5:25 left in the first quarter after an LIU Post turnover in its own end of the field. After senior attackman Mike DeBottis (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga C.C.) forced Octavio Bernabo out-of-bounds along the sideline, sophomore attackman Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) tallied his 28th goal of the season.

After running out the time in a man-down situation, the Pioneers evened the score at one apiece with 2:25 left in the quarter as Matty Beccaris scored from six yards out on the left side.

The Pioneers, who advance to the NCAA semifinals for the first time since the 2011 season, took their first lead of the day less than one minute into the second quarter. Beccaris carried the ball behind the cage before sending a pass over the top of the goal to Chris Caiazza, who dunked it home for his 33rd goal of the season.

Le Moyne, which defeated the Pioneers, 9-8, in overtime in the first round last year on its way to the program's fourth national championship, answered back with two goals in a span of 3:57 to regain the lead. After the Pioneers committed a 30-second shot clock violation, senior midfielder Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) netted an unassisted goal, his 20th of the season, with 9:26 remaining to knot the score at two. Following a loose ball out of a Le Moyne timeout, Jenkins scooped up the ball, one of his career and game-high nine ground balls, and sent a pass in front of the goal to senior attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), who slipped past his defender to tally his 32nd goal of the campaign with 5:29 left in the second quarter. The goal would mark Le Moyne's last of the contest.

LIU Post, which has won four straight games after dropping three out of four games to fall to 6-5, took control of the game with five straight goals in the middle five minutes of the third quarter. After the Panthers ran out the time in another man-down situation, Anthony Berardis drove past his defender in the right alley to score the game-winning goal with 10:10 left in the quarter. Just 46 seconds later, Beccaris tallied his 25th goal of the game. In a flag-down situation, Costello picked up his second goal of the game with 8:03 left to give the Panthers a 6-3 lead advantage and force a Le Moyne timeout. Just prior to the Dolphins getting their sixth defender back into defensive position, Costello registered a man-up goal with 7:01 remaining after taking a pass from Ryan Slane. Beccaris capped the spurt with a low shot with 5:14 left after coming around the right side of the cage from behind the net.

Costello scored the only goal of the slow-paced fourth quarter at the 9:42 mark after a dodge from the top of the box.

Le Moyne, which scored its fewest goals in a home game since a 14-3 loss to RIT during the 1996 season, hit six pipes in the contest, including three in the third quarter. T.J. DiCarlo, the Division II Goalkeeper of the Year as a sophomore in 2011 at Mercy College, registered 14 saves for the Pioneers, including three in the third quarter and five in the fourth quarter, to earn his ninth victory of the season. Junior goalkeeper Pat Brothers (Burlington, Mass./Malden Catholic) recorded nine saves, five of which came in the first quarter, in the loss.

The Dolphins finish the season with a record of 13-3. The three losses, all of which came at Ted Grant Field, are the most by the Dolphins since the 2002 squad also went 13-3. The three home losses are the most since going 2-5 during the 1998 season, the first year under the direction of head coach Dan Sheehan. The senior class finishes its career with a record of 60-8, two Northeast-10 Conference Championships (2012 & 2013), two Northeast-10 Conference regular season titles (2011 & 2012) and one national championship (2013).
