WOMEN’S SOCCER UPENDED BY TOP-RANKED SAINT ROSE, 4-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Jennifer Busk scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists to lead the top-ranked College of Saint Rose to a 4-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

With the victory, Saint Rose earns the first point in the fourth year of the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions.

Busk picked up her first point of the day just over 16 and one-half minutes into the contest. She sent a corner kick from the left side into the penalty box, where Jourdan Thompson headed the ball towards the goal to Morgan Burchhardt, who then headed the ball into the net from three yards out for her third goal of the season.

The Golden Knights doubled their lead midway through the second half off another set piece. With the ball popped up into the air, Thompson headed the ball towards the right side of the goal box, where Carmelina Puopolo bounced a shot into the back of the net for her conference-best seventh goal of the year.

Just 2:03 later, Busk netted her first goal of the campaign off another corner kick. Puopolo sent the corner kick in front of the goal, where it was headed by Amanda Vasquez towards the left side of the goal, where Busk was able to slip a shot inside the left post.

Saint Rose, which took over the top spot in the national rankings this week, capped the game's scoring with its third goal in a span of 4:07. After Busk collected the ball on the right endline, she sent a pass in front of the goal, where Meeghan Arno knocked the ball into the net from four yards out for her first tally of the campaign.

Junior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made a pair of saves in dropping her first decision in four games. Ashley Homer registered three saves to improve to 5-0 between the pipes this season. The Golden Knights recorded a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a10-4 margin in the second half, while taking all nine of the game's corner kicks.

Le Moyne (3-3, 1-1 NE-10), which had its three-game win streak snapped, returns to action on Saturday against Stonehill College at 11:00 p.m.
