Manchester, N.H. – Graduate student forward
Fabian Egger (Planegg, Bavaria/Feodor-Lynen Gymnasium/Webber International) scored with 1:19 left in regulation to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Melucci Field.
The Hawks opened the game's scoring just over 15 and one-half minutes into the contest. Eddie Conroy sent a pass from the top left corner of the penalty box to Sean Smith, who slipped his first goal of the season inside the left post.
Less than five minutes later, the Dolphins knotted the score at one apiece as sophomore back
James Goodridge (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) crossed the ball from the right endline into the middle of the penalty box, where Egger registered his second goal of the season.
Saint Anselm regained the lead with only 33 seconds remaining in the first half. Jack Heintzelman sent a feed from the left side into the goal box to Jack Lynch for his second goal of the campaign.
Following 33 scoreless minutes to start the second half, during which time the Dolphins registered a 10-3 advantage in shots, the Dolphins were awarded a penalty kick after junior midfielder
Nick Rauscher (Henrietta, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) was pulled down by the goalkeeper. Senior midfielder
Jaime Carolissen (Cape Town, Western Cape/Chesterhouse/Cayuga C.C.) stepped up and buried the ball into the back of the net to tie the score at two at the 78:15 mark.
After freshman goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) made a pair of saves in a span of 34 seconds, Egger netted the game-winning goal with a blast from 40 yards out into the top left corner of the goal on a breakaway.
Beaury finished with five saves, including three in the second half, to earn his first Northeast-10 Conference victory. Bret Macko recorded six saves in the loss for the Hawks. The Dolphins registered a 21-11 advantage in shots, including a 12-6 edge in the second half, while taking seven of the game's 10 corner kicks.
Le Moyne (4-1, 1-1 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday at Adelphi University at 4:00 p.m. The teams split a pair of meetings last year, Adelphi's first year in the conference. The Dolphins won in the regular season, 2-1 in double overtime, in Syracuse, while the Panthers won in Garden City, 3-0, in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
