RESULTSSyracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team won the first five singles matches en route to a 5-1 rain-shortened victory over Franklin Pierce University on Sunday morning in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts. The teams played the six singles matches first, but were unable to play the three doubles matches due to rain.
At first singles, sophomore
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), a Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team selection last year, opened the match with a 6-4 win in the first set over Christopher Brewer and closed out the match with a 6-2 victory in the second set. Freshman
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) picked up his first collegiate victory by downing Drew Bennett at second singles, 6-4, 6-2. Classmate
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) improved to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at third singles over Mark Petrie, while sophomore
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olivier Viel at fourth singles for his second win of the year. Redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) also improved to 2-0 with back-to-back 6-0 wins over Aras Banevicius at fifth singles. Logan Sherwood prevented the Le Moyne sweep by topping sophomore
Adam Celeta (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) at sixth singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Le Moyne (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) returns to dual-match competition on Sunday, October 5 against Saint Anselm College at 10:00 a.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts after sending five members to next weekend's ITA East Regional in Flushing, N.Y.
