Waltham, Mass. – Freshman midfielder
Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) scored the game-winner for the second straight game as the Le Moyne College men's soccer team defeated Bentley University, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Bentley Soccer Field. The Dolphins (6-1, 2-1 NE-10) have won six of their first seven games for the first time since the 1978 squad did the same thing.
Following 43 minutes of scoreless action, during which time the Dolphins recorded a 6-3 advantage in shots, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal, the Dolphins netted the game's only goal. Resetarits carried the ball down the left wing before ripping a shot from 25 yards out into the top corner of the goal for his third tally of the season.
The shots picked up in the second half, but so did the goalkeeping. The Dolphins had a chance to double their lead six and one-half minutes into the half, but missed a wide open net after a cross came from the right wing. After each goalkeeper made a save in a span of four minutes, Le Moyne freshman
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) turned away a pair of shots in a span of nine seconds in the 71st minute to keep the Falcons off the scoreboard. The Dolphins had one final push in the last three and one-half minutes, but Bentley keeper Jack Blatchford stopped three shots over a stretch of 1:48. The Falcons had a corner kick with 52 seconds remaining, but were unable to get a shot off.
Beaury finished the game with six saves, including five in the second half, to record the win and his fourth shutout of the season, the third-most by a first-year goalkeeper in the program's history. Blatchford tallied seven saves between the pipes in the loss for the Falcons. The Dolphins registered twice as many shots as Bentley, 18-9, while holding a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne, which snapped a two-game losing streak to the Falcons (both of which came at home) after going 8-0-1 in the previous nine meetings, returns home for the first time in 17 days on Tuesday against #7 nationally-ranked Southern Connecticut State University at 3:00 p.m.
