MERRIMACK EDGES WOMEN’S SOCCER, 2-1

North Andover, Mass. – Megan Gada headed in the game-winning goal midway through the second half to give Merrimack College a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play at Martone-Mejail Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just over 27 minutes into the contest on their first shot. After Merrimack recorded the game's first eight shots, four of which were saved by junior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), junior forward Kelly Ristoff (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Siena) netted her seventh goal of the season from 10 yards out at the 27:05 mark off a pass from freshman forward Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens).

Merrimack evened the score at one apiece with just 20 seconds remaining in the first half. Victoria Carter sent a pass to Alana Vecchiarello, who tallied her first goal of the season with a shot into the top left corner of the net.

The Warriors took the lead in the 60th minute as Gada took a pass fom Deirdre Roberts and headed the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out for her first goal of the year.

Corsaro registered six saves in the setback between the pipes. Molly Meehan, who took over in the second half, earned the win after turning away seven Le Moyne shots. Merrimack registered a 17-11 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 margin in the first half, while holding a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-4-1, 2-2-1 NE-10), which drops to 1-17-1 all-time against the Warriors, visits Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
