Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman forward
Jacob Borssen (Stockholm, Södermanland/Solna Gymnasium) scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 6-0 season-opening win over Nyack College on Thursday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
The Dolphins scored the only goal they would need with just over three minutes remaining in the first half. Junior midfielder
Anthony Scaravillo (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) sent a feed from the top of the penalty box towards the left corner of the goal box, where graduate student midfielder
Gino Corasaniti (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Niagara) slotted a shot into the lower right corner of the net for his first tally as a Dolphin.
Le Moyne doubled its lead just 47 seconds into the second half. Following a save by Nyack goalkeeper Phillip Mol, senior midfielder
Jaime Carolissen (Cape Town, Western Cape/Chesterhouse/Cayuga C.C.) headed the ball down to the feet of Borssen, who blasted a shot into the net from 10 yards out for his first collegiate goal. The Dolphins took a 3-0 lead at the 52:24 mark as senior
Zachary MacNabb (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/UNC Pembroke) slipped a shot into the right side of the net from 15 yards out on the left side after taking a feed from the middle of the field from graduate student
Fabian Egger (Planegg, Bavaria/Feodor-Lynen Gymnasium/Webber International). Just under five minutes later, senior back
Keleenna Onyeaka (Birmingham, West Midlands/Solihull Sixth Form College /Felician) drilled a shot into the back of the net from eight yards out after Corasaniti had a shot blocked by a Nyack defender.
Following 15 minutes of scoreless action, Borssen netted his second goal of the afternoon from the left side of the penalty box after taking a pass from classmate
Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). Resetarits picked up his first collegiate marker from the top left corner of the penalty box with 13:55 remaining in regulation after receiving a feed from sophomore back
James Goodridge (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).
Freshman goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) punched away the only shot he faced to record the shutout victory in his first collegiate appearance between the pipes. Mol made three saves in the setback for the Warriors. The Dolphins held a 15-5 advantage in shots, including an 11-4 edge in the second half, while taking four of the game's six corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-0), which fell to the Warriors, 3-1, at home in last year's season opener, returns to Ted Grant Field on Saturday against Lock Haven University at 1:00 p.m.
