WOMEN’S SOCCER NIPPED BY FELICIAN, 4-3, IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

Syracuse, N.Y. – Macki Groves scored her second goal of the game just 54 seconds into the second overtime period to give Felician College a 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Ted Grant Field.

Groves started the game's scoring just 6:28 into the contest. Kirsten Mortelliti sent a feed up the middle of the field to Groves, who was able to slip a shot inside the left post from 14 yards out.

The Dolphins answered back with three goals in a span of eight minutes and 14 seconds. Sophomore forward Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) knotted the score at one apiece at the 15:06 mark by heading in a corner kick from senior back Katherine Duke (Overland Park, Kan./ St. Thomas Aquinas). Just 89 seconds later, Terry gave her team the lead by ripping a shot from 20 yards out off the goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net. Le Moyne extended its lead to 3-1 with 21:40 left in the first half as junior forward Kelly Ristoff (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Siena) headed in a crossing feed from the left side from senior midfielder Lindsey Bakal (Newark Valley, N.Y./Newark Valley).

Felician started its comeback just under seven minutes later. After getting the ball on the left side of the penalty box, Mortelliti pushed the ball to the middle of the box, where Katina Koslowski was able to tap the ball into the goal from five yards out at the 30:11 mark.

The Golden Falcons evened the score at three apiece 5:34 into the second half as Amanda Nowak headed the ball inside the left post from four yards out off a cross from the right side of the field from Marissa Nieves.

Each team put a shot on goal over the final 33 minutes of the second half, but neither team was able to score again in regulation.

After each team had a shot go high in the first overtime period, Groves won the game for Felician just 54 seconds into the second overtime period by placing a shot from the top right corner of the penalty box into the upper left corner of the goal after taking a pass from Kristen Toropiw.

Junior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made one save in suffering her second straight one-goal loss between the pipes. Julia Sheridan made one save as well to earn the win for the Golden Falcons. The Dolphins recorded a 13-6 advantage in shots, including a 12-4 mark in regulation, while holding a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (0-2) wraps up its season-opening three-game homestand on Monday against Shepherd University at 1:00 p.m.
