WOMEN’S SOCCER’S LATE RALLY COMES UP SHORT IN 4-2 LOSS TO ADELPHI

Syracuse, N.Y. – Jeanine Nunez and Taylor Salmon each recorded three points to lead Adelphi University to a 4-2 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Panthers started the game's scoring just under five and one-half minutes into the contest. Off a give-and-go with Nunez off a short corner kick, Salmon scored underneath the crossbar in the middle of the goal from five yards outside the top left corner of the penalty box.

After Adelphi took nine of the next 11 shots in the first half, including three that had to be saved by senior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and another that clanged off the crossbar, the Panthers doubled their lead with 3:13 left in the stanza. Samantha Lanza carried the ball along the left endline before sending a centering pass to Nunez at the top of the goal box, where she one-touched the ball into the center of the goal for her fourth marker of the season.

The Panthers extended their lead to 3-0 just 2:24 into the second half. Off a cross by Salmon from outside the left side of the penalty box, Laura Gomez netted her fifth goal of the season from just inside the goal box.

Le Moyne scored twice in four minutes to trim its deficit to one. After accepting a pass on the right side of the field, sophomore forward Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) dribbled towards the top right corner of the penalty box before drilling a shot into the upper left corner of the goal from 20 yards out at the 60:07 mark for her first tally of the season. Exactly four minutes later, sophomore midfielder Samantha Ciulla (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder/Duquesne) picked up her first goal as a Dolphin by curling a corner kick from the left corner over the goal line.

The Dolphins had a chance to tie the score with 18:35 remaining, but sophomore midfielder Alexis Muraco (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Syracuse) sent her one-on-one shot at the top of the penalty box just right of the right goal post.

Adelphi (6-0-2 NE-10), the only undefeated team remaining in the Northeast-10, added an insurance goal with 16:29 left to play. Kelsey Malles sent a pass from the top left corner of the penalty box across the top of the box, where it was chested down by Kelsey Simpson, who then slid a shot inside the right post from 12 yards out.

Corsaro finished the game with four saves, all of which came in the first half, while Adelphi goalkeeper Anne Marie Ulliac also turned away four shots, including three in the second half. Adelphi registered an 18-8 advantage in shots, including a 12-2 mark in the first half, while taking seven of the game's eight corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-9-1, 0-7-1 NE-10), which is winless in its last nine games, returns to action on Wednesday against Southern Connecticut State University at 3:00 p.m.
