Syracuse, N.Y. – Redshirt senior midfielder
Cal Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored a pair of goals to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-1 come-from-behind win over Slippery Rock University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Ted Grant Field.
Slippery Rock opened the game's scoring just over 16 minutes into the contest. From the right endline, Peter Boylan passed the ball towards the center of the penalty box. Ryan Lutke ran on to the ball and slipped a shot from six yards out inside the right post for his team-best seventh goal of the season.
The Dolphins took advantage of a Slippery Rock foul in the penalty box to knot the score at one apiece with 36:57 played in the game. Filtch stepped up and buried the penalty kick into the right side of the goal as the goalkeeper jumped left.
Le Moyne took the lead only 5:12 later. From the top right corner of the penalty box, sophomore midfielder
Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) served the ball into the middle of the penalty box, where senior midfielder
Nick Rauscher (Henrietta, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) was able to head the ball into the left side of the netting for his second goal of the season.
The Rock had a chance to tie the score at two in the 57th minute, but their first shot was blocked by a Le Moyne defender and the rebound was pushed over the crossbar by sophomore goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute).
Le Moyne doubled its lead with 14 and one-half minutes remaining. After sophomore midfielder
Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) carried the ball down the right side, he sent the ball into the penalty box, where Filtch was able to knock the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards out for his team-best fifth goal of the year. With the goal, Filtch took over the Northeast-10 Conference lead in points with 19. Of Le Moyne's 19 goals this season, Filtch has been a part of 14 of them with the five goals and conference-best nine assists.
Beaury finished the game with three saves, including two in the second half, to earn his 20th career victory between the pipes. Kyle Hoffer tallied two saves in the loss for Slippery Rock. The Dolphins registered a 12-7 advantage in shots, while taking four of the game's six corner kicks.
Le Moyne (8-4), which has scored three goals in each of its last three victories, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday against Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m.
